Accelerated Orthodontic Treatment in St. Louis
Accelerated Orthodontics is a new approach to straightening your teeth that seeks to increase the rate of tooth movement by 25 to 50%, thereby reducing the treatment time.
Why accelerate orthodontic treatment?
Generally, people choose to wear braces, aligners, and other orthodontic appliances in order to improve their bite, oral function, smile, and even facial structure. However, these treatments take much longer for adults because their jawbones and facial bones are fully developed, with an average time of 2-3 years.
The prolonged treatment time is a major deterrent to receiving the treatment you need. It's not only inconvenient, but also continues to expose the patient to root resorption, caries, and gum recession. To reduce treatment time, it would require an approach that speeds up the rate of tooth movement and bone healing and turnover.
Approached to Orthodontic Treatment Acceleration
At Olive Orthodontics, we offer a number of options for accelerated orthodontic treatment, including:
1. Tooth Vibration
This technique uses Micro-osteoperforation (MOP) technology to speed up the movement of teeth. This approach involves the use of tiny micropulses that are about eight times gentler than those generated by an electric toothbrush. These micropulses are accurately directed to the areas of the jaw that need stimulation in order to soften the tissue around the bone and allow it move in the direction of the forces exerted by the braces or other orthodontic appliance.
This non-invasive technique can be used every day for 20 minutes to shorten treatment by up to 50%. Patients using Invisalign treatment report wearing each set of aligners for one week instead of two when combining the treatment with these vibrations.
2. Minor Gum Surgery
Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics (PAOO) involves the use of a minimally invasive surgical procedure to soften bone tissue around the teeth so they can move 2-4 times faster when using braces. This treatment not only reduces teeth straightening by more than 50%, but also allows expansion treatment for adults to widen the jaws for crowded teeth to fit better without the need for extractions.
